1. Cousteau Reserve in Guadeloupe: a must-see classic

The Cousteau Reserve is considered one of the most beautiful snorkeling and diving sites in the Caribbean – if not the world. This protected marine area is located mainly in Bouillante and partially in Pointe-Noire, on the island of Basse-Terre. You can access it from Malendure beach.

The reserve features exceptional seabeds and marine life: various species of hard coral, parrotfish, starfish, sea turtles, and even humpback whales passing offshore between December and May. It also includes three shipwrecks and a statue of Commander Cousteau, resting 12 meters underwater.

You can get there by taking an FRS ferry to Pointe-à-Pitre, then renting a car to drive to Bouillante.

Several local operators in Bouillante, Pointe-Noire and Deshaies offer excursions: scuba diving, snorkeling, or beginner courses for kids and adults.
